A real estate investment trust (REIT) that lent money to commercial property developers and investors, offering bridge loans, mezzanine financing, and preferred equity, while also managing property portfolios for third parties. Founded in 1997 by Resource America and led by Betsy Z. Cohen, the company went public in 1998 and grew through a 2006 merger with Taberna Financial Realty Trust. The name RAIT is short for Resource Asset Investment Trust, an acronym born from its parent company's name.
