A biopharmaceutical company that built a technology platform called ExtremeDiversity™ to craft synthetic macrocyclic peptides—tiny ring-shaped molecules that mimic antibodies but can be taken by mouth—for rare diseases caused by an overactive complement system. Founded in 2008 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, it developed a drug candidate called zilucoplan, an inhibitor of C5, before being acquired in 2020 by the Belgian firm UCB. The "Ra" in its name echoes the "RA" prefix used in its own research codes, nodding to the Egyptian sun god.
