Founded in 2008 by three entrepreneurs as the "Rational Patent EXchange," it uses a subscription model to pool members' money and purchase risky patent assets, protecting clients from "patent trolls." Its unusual promise: it has committed to never assert its own patents or file infringement suits against anyone.
