A global business-services firm best known for pest control and workplace hygiene, Rentokil Initial keeps offices, restaurants and homes free of rats and bugs while supplying washrooms, linens and cleaning services to companies worldwide. It was born in 1996 when pest-control pioneer Rentokil took over BET, which owned the Initial towel-rental brand. The name itself is a happy accident: founder Harold Maxwell-Lefroy wanted "Entokil" (Greek for insect-kill) but added an "R" to dodge an existing trademark.
