Resource America Inc
A specialized asset management firm that built and ran investment funds focused on real estate and credit for both institutional and individual investors. It began life in 1966 as SMTR Corp., a tax-shelter vehicle drilling oil and gas wells in Ohio and Pennsylvania, before renaming itself Resource Exploration in 1970 and finally Resource America in 1989. The "Resource" in its name originally pointed to the natural resources it dug for, long before it pivoted to managing money. In 2016 the company was acquired by C-III Capital Partners and its shares stopped trading on the NASDAQ.
