Rovi Corp
A behind-the-scenes technology company for the entertainment industry, Rovi built the electronic program guides and content-discovery databases that help TV viewers find and choose what to watch, and it licensed its patents to other media companies. It began life as Macrovision, a maker of copy-protection software, and took the name "Rovi" in 2009 from the middle four letters of "Macrovision." In 2016 it bought TiVo and renamed itself TiVo Corporation, later merging with Xperi.
