Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc
A retail and commercial bank offering everyday products like current accounts, mortgages, credit cards, and savings for individuals and businesses in the UK and Ireland. It was founded in Edinburgh in 1727 by royal charter — hence the "Royal" in its name — born from investors compensated after Scotland's failed Darien scheme. In 2000 it took over National Westminster Bank (NatWest) in a hostile takeover, and in 2020 the parent group renamed itself NatWest Group, though the RBS brand still lives on in Scotland.
