Shell Plc
One of the world's largest energy companies, Shell explores for oil and natural gas and turns them into fuels, lubricants, and petrochemicals used by motorists and industry worldwide, while also building electric-vehicle charging networks. The name dates to a London antique shop in the 1830s, whose owner imported seashells for Victorian décor; his sons later adopted "Shell" for the family's kerosene business. In 1907 Shell merged with Royal Dutch Petroleum to take on the era's dominant oil giant, Standard Oil.
