A global distributor supplying office-based dentists and doctors with everything from dental implants and biomaterials to practice-management software and everyday supplies. It grew out of a single New York City pharmacy that founder Henry Schein and his wife Esther opened in 1932 during the Great Depression, later shifting to mail-order medical supplies. In those hard years, Henry kept a notebook behind the counter listing customers who couldn't pay, letting them take medicine on trust—a habit of service that shaped the company's culture.
