A supplier of "everything but the textbooks" for American classrooms, School Specialty sells art and craft supplies, classroom furniture, science curricula, and special-needs sensory equipment to Pre-K through 12th-grade schools. It traces its roots to 1950, when Ed Schrede founded Universal Paper and School Supply; after a 1988 near-bankruptcy, it was turned around and grew through acquisitions into one of the country's largest education distributors. Its own brands include Sax arts-and-crafts supplies and Snoezelen sensory rooms.
