Scripps Networks Interactive, Inc.
A media company that built and ran the lifestyle cable channels behind some of America's most-watched home and food shows, including HGTV, the Food Network, the Travel Channel, and the Cooking Channel. Born as a spin-off from the E.W. Scripps newspaper empire (founded 1878) in 2008, the "Scripps" in its name honors that founding family. Its channels made stars of home-renovation hosts, and the company was later folded into Discovery, which boasted it owned five of the top U.S. cable networks for women.
