Senior Housing Properties Trust
A real estate investment trust that owns and leases healthcare properties — senior living communities, medical office buildings, and life science facilities — to the operators who run them. It was formed in 1998 and spun off from HRPT Properties Trust in 1999, when that company handed most of its stake to its own shareholders. In 2020 it renamed itself Diversified Healthcare Trust to reflect how far its portfolio had grown beyond senior housing alone.
