Shaw Communications Inc
A Canadian telecom company that built cable TV, high-speed internet, and satellite TV services (including the Shaw Direct satellite brand) for households across Canada, and was folded into Rogers Communications in 2023. It began in 1966 as Capital Cable Television Co. Ltd., started by James Robert "JR" Shaw in Edmonton, Alberta, who connected his first customer in Sherwood Park in 1971; the company later took its founder's family name. Fun fact: Shaw came from a pipeline business family in Ontario, and he originally moved west to work on pipeline ventures before cable TV caught his eye.
