SIBANYE STILLWATER

A mining company that digs up gold and platinum group metals — platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium and ruthenium — used in catalytic converters, jewelry and electronics. It began in 2013 when Gold Fields spun off its South African gold mines into a company named Sibanye Gold, then grew in 2017 by buying Montana's Stillwater Mining. The name "Sibanye" comes from isiXhosa and means "we are one," while "Stillwater" honors Montana's Stillwater River — which is famously swift and rushing, not still at all.
