A Danish transport and logistics company, Maersk is one of the world's largest container shipping firms, carrying cargo between hundreds of ports worldwide. Founded in 1904 by Captain Peter Mærsk Møller and his son Arnold, it takes its name from the father's middle name. Its seven-pointed star symbol dates to 1886, when Peter prayed for a sign while his wife fell ill on a voyage — and saw a single star break through the grey clouds.
