Founded in 1992 in Manhattan Beach, California, by Robert Greenberg and his son Michael, the company began as a distributor for Dr. Martens before launching its own brand. The name comes from the 1990s California slang "skecher," meaning an energetic, restless kid — a nod to the active, youthful spirit the brand was built around.
