A. O. Smith Corporation
A maker of water heaters and water-treatment systems, A. O. Smith is one of the largest suppliers of residential and commercial water heaters in North America, sold under its own name and brands to homeowners, plumbers, and builders. It began in 1874 in Milwaukee as a small metalworking shop making parts for baby carriages and bicycles, and later built the first pressed-steel automobile frames for early automakers like Ford. The company is named after Arthur Oliver Smith, the founder's son, and it famously entered water heating through a 1930s process for fusing glass to steel—a trick first used on brewery beer kegs.

As is more fully described in our Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2025, we are exposed to various types of market risks, including currency and certain commodity risks. Our quantitative and qualitative disclosures about market risk have not materially changed since that report was filed. We monitor our currency and commodity risks on a continuous basis and generally enter into forward and futures contracts to minimize these exposures. The majority of the contracts are for periods of less than one year. Our Company does not engage in speculation in our derivative strategies. It is important to note that gains and losses from our forward and futures contract activities are offset by changes in the underlying costs of the transactions being hedged. 28 Table of Contents
