Smart & Final Stores Inc
A membership-free grocery warehouse chain, Smart & Final sells both family-sized groceries and club-sized bulk items to everyday shoppers as well as restaurants, caterers, and nonprofits. Its roots reach back to an 1871 Los Angeles wholesale grocer, but the name came in 1914 when partners Jim Smart and Hildane Final bought a Santa Ana company and renamed it after themselves. The chain pioneered the self-service "cash and carry" model west of Chicago and introduced the Iris brand in 1889, one of the first private-label product lines in the United States.
