A teledentistry company that sold clear aligners directly to consumers, bypassing traditional dental offices. Founded in 2014 by Jordan Katzman and Alex Fenkell — who met at summer camp as teenagers and were both former braces-wearers — the Nashville-based company sent 3D-printed aligners straight to customers' homes and ran hundreds of "SmileShop" retail locations for 3D teeth scans. The "Direct" in its name reflects that mail-order model.
