Spark Therapeutics Inc
A biotechnology company that develops one-time gene therapies for inherited diseases, Spark Therapeutics is best known for Luxturna, the first gene therapy approved in the US for an inherited retinal disease that causes blindness. Founded in 2013 as a spin-out from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the company chose its name to reflect its mission of "sparking" healthy biological processes in patients. It was acquired by the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche in 2019.
