Spirit Aerosystems Holdings, Inc.
One of the world's largest independent makers of aircraft aerostructures, Spirit AeroSystems builds the fuselages (the airplane's main body) for many Boeing jets, including the 737, 767, 777 and 787. It was born in 2005 when Boeing sold its Wichita, Kansas, aerostructures division to an investment firm. Its name nods to Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, and its 737 fuselages famously ride roughly 1,700 miles by rail to Boeing's plant in Washington.
