Spreadtrum Communications Inc

A fabless semiconductor company that designs the chipsets powering mobile phones, from budget feature phones to smartphones. Founded in Shanghai in 2001 by entrepreneurs who returned to China to build homegrown chip technology, it listed on the NASDAQ in 2007 and was later acquired by Tsinghua Unigroup, eventually rebranding as UNISOC. Its name is a playful twist on "spread spectrum," the wireless technology at the heart of its business.
