Steelcase Inc

A maker of office furniture, Steelcase designs the ergonomic chairs and sit-stand desks found in workplaces, schools, and hospitals around the world. Founded in 1912 in Grand Rapids, Michigan as the Metal Office Furniture Company, it got its start building fireproof metal equipment—its first patented product was a metal wastebasket meant to stop office fires. The name "Steelcase" came from a marketing consultant in 1921 who coined it to sell the public on the durability of steel furniture.
