Sterling Bancorp (delaware)

A bank holding company that owned Sterling National Bank, serving small and mid-sized businesses and consumers across the New York metropolitan area and Hudson Valley. Its roots go back to 1888, when it was founded as Provident Bank; in 2013 it merged with another Sterling Bancorp and adopted that name, and in 2022 it merged into Webster Financial Corporation. A quirk of that 2013 deal: the older Provident institution took the name of the company it absorbed.
