A Montana miner that pulled palladium and platinum from the J-M Reef, the only significant source of platinum group metals in the United States, in the Beartooth Mountains. The reef was discovered in the early 1970s by geologists working for Johns-Manville Corporation and named after that employer; the company took its name from the Stillwater Complex, the ancient rock formation holding the deposit. Incorporated in 1992, it was acquired by South Africa's Sibanye Gold in 2017.
