Straight Path Communications Inc.

A wireless communications company that held a vast portfolio of millimeter-wave spectrum licenses in the 28 and 39 GHz bands — the airwaves widely seen as key for future 5G networks. It was spun off from IDT Corporation in 2013, and its name reflects how those high-frequency signals travel: they need a clear, line-of-sight "straight path" between transmitter and receiver. In 2017 the FCC fined it for renewing licenses without actually deploying the promised services, and Verizon later acquired the company.
