A Houston-based oilfield services company that helps oil and gas operators keep their wells working. It rents out specialized drilling tools—from drill strings to blowout preventers—and performs well intervention and plugging services that keep aging wells productive and safely shut down. Founded in 1989 by Louisiana attorney Terence Hall, the company grew through a 1995 reverse merger that took it public, and it now runs a family of brands including Workstrings International, Stabil Drill, and HB Rentals. In its early days it helped pioneer "rigless" plug-and-abandonment work, a cheaper way to retire wells without a full drilling rig.
