Surface Oncology was a clinical-stage biotech company that designed antibody therapies to help the immune system fight cancer by targeting the tumor microenvironment — the mix of cells and signals around a tumor that can suppress immune responses. Founded in 2014 by the venture firm Atlas Venture and based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, it took its name from its focus on the proteins on the surface of cells that regulate immunity. Its lead drug candidates included casdozokitug, aimed at lung and liver cancer; the company was later absorbed by Coherus BioSciences in 2023.
