Surgical Care Affiliates Inc
A U.S. operator of outpatient surgery centers, where procedures are done without an overnight hospital stay, now branded SCA Health and part of UnitedHealth Group's Optum. It was founded in 1982 in Nashville by healthcare entrepreneur Joel Gordon, with backing from Jack Massey, a co-founder of hospital giant HCA. The name reflects its model of "affiliations" between physicians, health systems, and health plans to deliver "surgical care" outside hospitals.
