Symantec Corporation
A cybersecurity software company best known for Norton antivirus, which protected home computers for decades, and LifeLock identity protection. It was founded in 1982 by a Stanford artificial-intelligence researcher and originally built database software, not security tools. The name "Symantec" blends the words syntax, semantics, and technology. In 2019 it sold its business-security arm to Broadcom, and the consumer side was renamed NortonLifeLock.
