Symetra Financial Corp
A Bellevue, Washington financial services firm that sells retirement annuities (like its Symetra Accumulator series), group life and disability insurance for employers, and term life policies such as SwiftTerm. It began in 1957 as SAFECO's life insurance arm, then in 2004 the business was spun off by investors including Berkshire Hathaway and renamed Symetra — a made-up word chosen to suggest "symmetry" and a sense of balance. Today it operates as the U.S. retirement-products arm of Japan's Sumitomo Life.
