A maker of crop protection products and seeds, Syngenta helps farmers grow everything from corn and soy to vegetables and flowers, backed by digital tools that guide planting decisions. It was born in 2000 when the agribusiness arms of Novartis and AstraZeneca merged in Basel, Switzerland. The name blends Greek "syn" (together) with Latin "gens" (people), meaning "bringing people together" — and its roots stretch back to 1758, when the Swiss firm Geigy, whose researcher developed DDT in 1939, was founded.
