A business development company that lends money to mid-sized private companies, providing senior secured loans and other financing to businesses too large for small lenders but too small for big banks. It began in 2012 as TCP Capital Corp, named for its investment advisor Tennenbaum Capital Partners, founded by former Bear Stearns executive Michael Tennenbaum. When BlackRock bought Tennenbaum in 2018, the company took on the BlackRock name while keeping the TCP initials.
