Tata Motors Limited
One of the world's largest automakers, India's Tata Motors builds everything from the Tata Ace mini-truck and the Nexon and Safari SUVs to the British luxury cars of Jaguar Land Rover. It began in 1945 as TELCO (Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company), a locomotive builder, before entering trucks in the 1950s. In 2008 it bought the Jaguar and Land Rover brands from Ford. A famous chapter: chairman Ratan Tata, seeing a family of four squeezed onto one scooter in the rain, dreamed up the Nano — the "world's cheapest car."
