Atlas Energy L.p.
A master limited partnership that gathered and processed natural gas through its midstream arm Atlas Pipeline Partners and explored for oil and gas through Atlas Resource Partners across the Appalachian Basin, Barnett Shale and beyond. Formed in 2006 by the Cohen family, it was later folded into Targa Resources, which took over its pipeline business. The "Atlas" name, evoking the strongman who carried the world, also belongs to an unrelated modern sand-logistics firm, a common source of mix-ups.
