Triple-S Management Corporation

A health insurer and managed-care company, Triple-S is the largest medical insurance provider in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the territory's exclusive independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. Founded in 1959 in San Juan by a group of physicians and dentists who wanted coverage for visits to doctors' offices (not just hospitals), it was originally called Seguros de Servicios de Salud — whose three Spanish S's give the company its "Triple-S" name.
