A Turkish telecommunications and technology company, Turkcell provides mobile phone service, high-speed fiber internet, and digital TV to consumers and businesses across Turkey. Founded in 1993 as a joint venture between the Turkish Çukurova Group and Scandinavian telecom firm Telia, it launched the country's first GSM mobile network in 1994. Its name blends "Turk" with "cell" (short for cellular), and its early logo featured a cartoon insect with antennae meant to echo the towers that carry phone signals.
