Audentes Therapeutics Inc
A San Francisco biotech founded in 2012, Audentes developed gene therapies for rare diseases, using a harmless virus to carry corrected genes into patients' muscle cells. Its lead program targeted a rare muscle disorder in children. The name comes from the Latin "audentes," meaning "the daring"—an echo of the proverb "Fortune favors the bold." Japanese pharma Astellas bought the company in 2020.
