The company got its start in 1966 as Saturn Industries, an industrial conglomerate that once made iron pipes and even explosives. Its name comes from Tyler Pipe, a foundry it bought in 1968 that was so successful the whole firm was renamed after it, long before it ever wrote a line of software.
