A real estate investment trust that owns and operates apartment communities across dozens of U.S. markets, renting homes to residents in cities from coast to coast. It began in 1972 as United Dominion Realty Trust in Virginia, later shortening its name to UDR and moving its headquarters to Colorado. It is one of the longest-tenured publicly traded apartment REITs in the country, having grown from a regional landlord into a national owner of apartment homes.
