Usg Corporation
A maker of building materials, best known for inventing modern drywall. Its Sheetrock brand wallboard, trademarked in 1917, became the standard for interior walls, and it also makes DUROCK cement board, joint compound, and ceiling tiles. The company was founded in Chicago in 1901 as the United States Gypsum Company, a consolidation of dozens of regional gypsum and plaster makers that made it the first truly nationwide producer in its industry.
