A supplier of enriched uranium fuel for commercial nuclear power plants, USEC Inc. was created by the Energy Policy Act of 1992 as a government-owned corporation to take over the U.S. Department of Energy's uranium enrichment operations, then privatized in 1998. Its name is simply an acronym for the United States Enrichment Corporation, and it ran the Cold War-era enrichment plants at Paducah, Kentucky, and Portsmouth, Ohio. After a 2014 bankruptcy restructuring, it re-emerged as Centrus Energy.
