Ul Solutions Inc.
A maker of testing, inspection, certification, and software services, UL Solutions helps companies prove their products are safe. Its familiar "UL Mark" appears on everything from toasters and power tools to fire extinguishers, signaling to retailers and regulators that a product has been independently checked. The company grew out of Underwriters Laboratories, founded in 1894 by electrical engineer William Henry Merrill after his work at the Chicago World's Fair. The name comes from the insurance "underwriters" who financed early fire-safety testing—and the story goes that Merrill's team even tested the wires at that 1893 fair.
