Usinas Siderurgicas De Minas Gerais S.a.

A Brazilian steelmaker and one of the largest producers of flat steel in the Americas, Usiminas makes thick plates, hot- and cold-rolled steel, and galvanized sheets used in everything from cars to heavy machinery. It was founded in 1956 in the state of Minas Gerais, with a Japanese consortium led by Nippon Steel helping build the mill in exchange for a stake in the operation. Its name is simply a shortening of its full title, Usinas Siderúrgicas de Minas Gerais, and it holds the distinction of being the most patented steelmaker in Latin America.
