A maker of vaccines for infectious diseases, VBI Vaccines is best known for its hepatitis B shot, sold as PreHevbrio in the U.S. and Sci-B-Vac elsewhere. The company grew out of Variation Biotechnologies, a Cambridge, Massachusetts startup founded in 2007 whose name pointed to its goal of tackling the natural variation in viruses. In 2016 it merged with SciVac Therapeutics, taking the VBI Vaccines name and building its shots on a virus-mimicking technology platform.
