Vanguard Whitehall Funds

A family of investment funds, run by the giant Vanguard Group, that sits inside a legal structure called a trust. Its best-known member is the Vanguard High Dividend Yield ETF (VYM), which buys shares in large U.S. companies that pay above-average dividends, like a basket of steady dividend payers. The "Whitehall" name is a label Vanguard gives to one of its fund trusts, while "Vanguard" itself comes from HMS Vanguard, the British warship that served as Admiral Nelson's flagship at the 1798 Battle of the Nile — founder John Bogle chose the name after reading about naval history.
