A maker of two-factor authentication and digital signature security tools, Vasco Data Security International built the DIGIPASS line of hardware tokens and software authenticators used by banks and enterprises to verify online identities. Founded in 1998 in Belgium, the company grew into one of the world's largest providers of authentication technology before rebranding as OneSpan in 2018. The name "Vasco" came from the initials of its founders, who started the firm to tackle the growing problem of online fraud.
