Virgin Orbit Holdings Inc
A spaceflight company that launched small satellites into orbit using rockets dropped from a modified Boeing 747 jetliner, rather than from a ground pad. Its LauncherOne rocket carried research and communications payloads for commercial customers and government agencies. The venture grew out of Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space-tourism effort, spinning off in 2017 to focus on launching satellites for a growing small-satellite market. Its unusual air-launch method let it fly from wherever a runway existed, earning it the nickname "a spaceport in a hangar."
