Volcano Corporation
A maker of catheter-based imaging tools that let cardiologists see and measure inside blood vessels in real time, Volcano Corporation built its name on intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and fractional flow reserve (FFR) technology used to diagnose coronary and peripheral artery disease. Founded in 2000 as Volcano Therapeutics, it grew into a leader in image-guided heart care before being acquired by Royal Philips in 2015. Its name has no official origin story, but its tools let doctors see plaque from inside the artery.
