Wd-40 Company
A maker of the blue-and-yellow aerosol that fixes squeaky hinges, loosens rusted bolts, and displaces water from electronics—the familiar can found in workshops and garages the world over. The WD-40 Company began in 1953 as the Rocket Chemical Company in San Diego, when chemist Norm Larsen spent forty tries perfecting a rust-preventing solvent for the aerospace trade, notably shielding the Atlas missile from corrosion. The name says it all: WD-40 stands for "Water Displacement, 40th formula," the lucky attempt that finally worked.
